Martin Shkreli Jailed After Asking For Hillary Clinton's Hair On Facebook

A federal judge sent Martin Shkreli, dubbed America’s “most hated man,” to jail on Wednesday after he posted a Facebook status asking for a piece of Hillary Clinton’s hair.

In a now-deleted Facebook post, Shkreli wrote that the Clinton Foundation is “willing to KILL to protect its secrets.” In his post, Shkreli asked someone to grab hair from Clinton to “confirm the sequences” he allegedly had on file. He offered a $5,000 bounty for a strand of her hair.

The New York Post reports judge Kiyo Matsumoto revoked Shkreli’s $5 million bond, despite Shkreli pleading that the Facebook post was meant to be a joke.

CNBC reports the letter read, “I wanted to personally apologize to this Court and my lawyers for the aggravation that my recent postings have caused. I understand now, that some may have read my comments about Mrs. Clinton as threatening, when that was never my intention when making those comments."

According to CNN, Matsumoto called Shkreli’s behavior an “ongoing risk to the community” and said that he has “demonstrated that he has posed a real danger.”

His lawyer, Benjamin Brafman, argued that Shkreli’s actions were just “stupid,” not dangerous, unsuccessfully asking the judge to ban Shkreli from social media instead of putting him in jail.

The New York Post reports Shkreli will now be placed in a maximum security federal jail until his sentencing, on Jan. 18 2018.

Shkreli was recently convicted of securities fraud and faces up to 20 years in prison.
