Yesterday, in an event that surprised no one, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said something stupid.

In a live stream, AOC claimed that the United States was running concentration camps which are being used to imprison illegal immigrants: "The fact that concentration camps are now an institutionalized practice in the Home of the Free is extraordinarily disturbing and we need to do something about it."

"A presidency that creates concentration camps is fascist," the freshman representative continued.

Well, acting Director of ICE, Mark Morgan, didn't take too kindly to the accusation that his agency was running concentration camps.

"This type of rhetoric from our elected leaders is irresponsible, reckless, misinformed and wrong," Morgan said in an interview on Fox, "And what's ironic about this, is we've been sounding the alarm for a very long time. That we have a crisis, it's real, it's not manufactured, our resources are overwhelmed."

Referencing the detention facilities that AOC falsely labeled as concentration camps, Morgan said: "Those facilities are designed for adults, they're not designed for families and kids and we've been saying that for a very, very long time. Congress could pass meaningful legislation that could end this tomorrow, so the irony is unbelievable here."

And, by all accounts, Morgan isn't necessarily wrong. If AOC seriously believes detention facilities in the US are akin to German concentration camps, she has some ability to stop it. Congress, as America's legislative authority and purse, has the authority to bring an end to cramped, undersupplied immigration facilities.

Instead, it seems as if AOC and her ilk are comfortable simply complaining on live streams while doing nothing of substance.
