The Trump National Doral Miami resort in Doral, Fla. had an active shooter situation early Friday morning when a 42-year-old Doral resident entered the resort and began opening fire in the lobby. Cops showed up soon thereafter and subdued the man by shooting the criminal without killing him.

The man reportedly also took an American flag and draped it over the counter while yelling anti-Trump epithets.

An officer suffered a broken wrist during the altercation, but no one else — besides the shooter — were injured. The shooter could be seen getting taken away in an ambulance to a local hospital.

Not surprising, that while CBS News did report on the man making anti-Trump comments while the situation was ongoing, they reported that the motive “remained unclear.” In contrast, the New York Times reported that even though “police did not immediately describe a motive for the attack at the resort, they said the man had tried to ambush officers and had yelled ‘anti-Trump’ rhetoric.”

The dude went to a Trump resort, opened fire in the lobby and yelled anti-Trump remarks. I’d say his motivations are pretty darn clear at the moment. He might not have been trying to kill the president, but the shooter definitely wanted to send a message.

Director of the Miami-Dade Police Department Juan Perez told reporters that while officials are not claiming to know the shooter's "long term intentions" - they quickly grasped the immediate danger of the situation.

“We don’t know what his intentions were — long-term intentions — but we know what he was trying to do at the time, and it appears that he was trying to engage our police officers, some kind of ambush-type attack, trying to lure our police officers,” Perez said.

While it seems pretty clear what the motivation was for the shooter, the police are just doing their jobs and don’t want to make any public assertions — other than the one Perez made — without doing a thorough investigation.

All in all, I don’t think acts like this should be discounted whether the target(s) of the shooter was the president or police. There’s a strange happening going on in this country where it’s almost accepted that police and/or the president are the bad guys, and the criminally insane — like this shooter in Doral — are the good guys.

Everything’s backwards, and it’s time to right the ship.
