How much money would you pay for a photograph of this potato?

Granted, it's probably in the top ten of artistic pictures of potatoes we have ever seen. But is it inspiring enough to fork over $1.56 million? To an anonymous European businessman, it was worth exactly that.

Irish celebrity photographer Kevin Abosch sold the photo after the businessman attended his Paris home for dinner. It only took a few glasses of wine before he decided to make the purchase.

Either that's really good wine or some people have way too much money.

"Potato #345" was taken in 2010 under a single light with a digital camera. The photographer described his reasoning for photographing the potato:

"I see commonalities between humans and potatoes that speak to our relationship as individuals within a collective species.

"Generally, the life of a harvested potato is violent and taken for granted. I use the potato as a proxy for the ontological study of the human experience."

Mr. Abosch generally sells his photographs for around $400,000.
