Apparently being a celebrity doppelganger does not always have its perks.

A man in New York was assaulted by another man, allegedly because he looked too much like actor Shia LaBeouf. We'd like to emphasize that this story is for real.

Mario Licato, 26, got sucker-punched while on his way home by man who is still at-large.

Licato told the Gothamist:

I didn't even see the guy. I just see his fist coming towards me. It knocked me, and while I was falling down the stairs, all I hear was, "This is because you look exactly like Shia LaBeouf!"

Licato was knocked out cold from the punch and the subsequent fall down the stairs of the subway.

Licato wasn’t sure if what he heard from the assailant was, in fact, what the attacker had said. So he asked a couple that had come up to him to see if he was okay if they heard the same thing:

I was so confused. I was even more confused because I got up and I was like, am I crazy or did I hear him say, "This is because you look like Shia LaBeouf?" And [the couple] were like, "Nope. That's exactly what he said as he was running away from you."

Licato said that he has been stopped before by people thinking he looked like LaBeouf. But now, Licato just wants answers.

"I wanna know what Shia LaBeouf did to [the suspect]," Licato told Gothamist. "What did Shia LaBeouf do to him that he punched somebody that looks like him? He must have did something so mean. Did he steal his girlfriend? Did he just see his last performance art piece?"

Licato displayed his injury of Instagram:
