A man was fatally shot early Tuesday morning outside of a bar in Times Square in New York City, CBS Local New York reports.

It was just before 4 a.m. when a man walked up to 33-year-old Perseus Salichs outside of Tonic Bar and shot him once in the head, according to police.

The New York Post reports that investigators believe Salichs and the gunman knew each other and began fighting outside the bar before the trigger was pulled. Police have not confirmed whether the two knew each other or if there was an altercation preceding the shooting.

There was “pushing and shoving. Then [the] perp pulls out a gun and shoots [the] victim one time in the head. Happened very quickly,” the Post's "high-ranking police source" reportedly said.

People who saw what had happened rushed over to help. One woman attempted to give the shooting victim CPR.

Salichs was pronounced dead at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

The suspect is still on the loose. He was seen running north up Seventh Avenue.

Police are combing the area for evidence and possible surveillance video of the gunman.
