In a classic example of unintended consequences, a man wearing a shark costume was fined under Austria’s new burka ban which prohibits people from wearing full face coverings.

Politico reports the man, who was wearing the shark costume as part of a promotional event for McShark technology, was stopped by police and fined. According to the Telegraph, he was fined €150, approximately $178.

Eugen Prosquill, who serves the managing director for ad agency Warda Network, told Heute, “I did not know that the law is so far that mascots are affected.”

The man allegedly told police he was just doing his job.

Austria’s burka ban went in place on Oct. 1.
