A new Rasmussen poll shows that a majority of Americans believe the migrant caravans are a danger to the U.S.

This comes a day after about 500 migrants rushed the border between San Diego and Tijuana, pushing past Mexican police blockades and assaulting Border Patrol agents.

The poll finds that 51 percent of Americans “believe the caravans of migrants crossing Mexico to enter the United States illegally are a threat to public health and national security,” meanwhile 41 percent disagree and 8 percent are undecided.

Even more, most Americans (49%) agree with President Trump’s asylum ban barring migrants from applying if they fail to lawfully present themselves at ports of entry and attempt to cross the border illegally.

Thirty-seven percent (37%) disagree with Trump’s proposal and 14 percent poll undecided.

U.S. Customs and Border Patrol on Sunday had to shut down San Ysidro, a major U.S. port of entry, after hundreds of migrants charged the border.

It was reported that migrants overwhelmed Mexican police blockades, threw rocks and bottles at San Diego Border Patrol agents, cut through concertina wire, and damaged the legacy border fencing between San Diego and Mexico.

The Rasmussen survey was conducted last week, days before the attempted invasion, which alone speaks volumes.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters was conducted Nov. 20 and has a margin sampling error of three percentage points.
