According to a new Rasmussen poll, most Americans (67%) disagree with New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s statement that America “was never that great.”

Seventeen percent (17%) agree with Cuomo and 16% poll undecided.

Even more, an overwhelming majority of respondents (85%) are proud to be American and 69% think Americans should be proud of the country’s history.

Democrats are more likely to agree with the potential 2020 Democratic presidential nominee who received a firestorm of criticism for his anti-America remarks.

“Twenty-one percent (21%) of Democrats think Cuomo is right, compared to 14% of both Republicans and voters not affiliated with either major political party,” reports Rasmussen. “Seventy-nine percent (79%) of Republicans reject the idea that America was ‘never that great,’ a view shared by 60% of Democrats and 64% of unaffiliateds.”

President Trump last week slammed Cuomo for his comment, saying that Cuomo's feelings toward America show there’s no real “reason to ever vote for him.”

He tweeted that Cuomo's comment was worse than Hillary Clinton's "deplorables" remark.

At an event in New York last week, Trump encouraged Cuomo to run against him.

“Oh, please do,” he said.

The Rasmussen survey of 1,000 likely U.S. voters was conducted August 16-19 and has a margin of sampling error of 3 percentage points.
