Russian President Vladimir Putin claims that his country has developed an “invincible” nuclear-capable missile that renders the U.S. “defenseless.”

In his state of the nation address on Thursday, Putin boasted about his country’s advances in military technology, including the development of a missile which can travel at hypersonic speed and elude missile defense systems.

He also claimed Russia had developed a nuclear-capable, low-flying cruise missile with “unlimited” range.

Putin, who is running for re-election in mid-March, said that the missiles render NATO defenses “completely useless.”

No doubt an effort to send a message directly to President Trump, Putin played in the background a video animation showing what appeared to be several nuclear missiles striking Florida.

"Russia still has the greatest nuclear potential in the world, but nobody listened to us," said Putin. "Listen now."

The Pentagon on Thursday brushed off Putin’s threats, saying that the U.S. is “fully prepared” and ready to react to “anything that may come our way.”

Trump has yet to respond but the White House on Thursday said he "understands the threats facing America and our allies in this century" and that "U.S. defense capabilities are and will remain second to none."
