The new “Toy Story” spin off, “Lightyear,” will be showing two lesbians sharing a kiss in the purported “family friendly” film. The reaction to this has been strong.
At least 14 countries have banned the playing of “Lightyear” in their countries. What’s interesting is that these lands are not culturally Christian countries like the United States, France, or England, but are instead all Muslim countries in the heart of the Middle East and Southeast Asia. Some of the countries disallowing the film include Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, Indonesia, Malaysia, Kuwait and Egypt, according to Deseret News.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Youth and Culture’s Media Regulatory Office posted on Twitter that “Lightyear” doesn’t meet the “country’s media content standards.” Reportedly, same-sex relationships are illegal in the UAE as well as in surrounding Middle Eastern countries.
How is it that the Middle East is upholding Christian, common sense “standards” and not the traditional Christian kingdoms and democracies? It’s because the West can’t tread upon the convictions of others and censor content. Don’t get me wrong, I’m grateful that we value freedom of speech in the U.S., but it’s sad that other countries of another religion must be the ones to wake up supposedly Christian countries to the moral wrongness within the cinema.

Even China is thinking of banning the film, censoring nearly all homosexual material in TV and films, while not being afraid to censor big blockbuster films like the ones Disney makes.
Authorities in China had requested Disney remove the gay kiss from the film, but the company refused. This refusal stood by a recent statement they had posted against Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which was signed by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) in March.
The company’s statement which was given to “Good Morning America” in March said, “The biggest impact we can have in creating a more inclusive world is through the inspiring content we produce.”
Chris Evans, who stars as “Lightyear” in the new film, reacted to critics by calling them “idiots.”
“The real truth is, those people are idiots,” Evans stated in an interview with Reuters on Tuesday before getting self-righteous about what he thinks makes America. "Every time there’s been social advancement as we wake up, the American story, the human story is one of constant social awakening and growth and that’s what makes us good.”
The lesbian kiss is initiated by a female space ranger named Hawthorne (played by Uzo Aduba) who is friends with Buzz. Hawthorne is briefly shown kissing her wife in a montage showing a milestone in the couple’s relationship.
The movie is set to come out this Friday, June 17th.
