According to Nielsen, Fox News’ Special Report with Bret Baier beat out several liberal evening newscasts in household viewers – some by more than a double-digit margin, reports MediaBistro.

Baier outperformed ABC’s World News Tonight with David Muir in five key markets across the country, including Baltimore, Jacksonville, Ft. Myers, Providence, and St. Louis.

“As a cable news program, this is quite an impressive feat for Special Report, as its rival World News Tonight is a broadcast program,” says MediaBistro.

In both Atlanta and Austin household viewers, the Fox newscaster surpassed CBS’ Evening News with Scott Pelley, also a broadcast program like World News Tonight.

Against his fellow cable news programs, Baier not only claimed the top spot - he also beat CNN, MSNBC, and HLN (formerly, "CNN Headline News") COMBINED:

“In cable news, Baier ranks #1 in the 6PM/ET hour, beating CNN, MSNBC, and HLN combined in both demo and total viewers."

MediaBistro writes, "Averaging more nearly 2.5 million in total viewers, Special Report ranks #3 ... only behind primetime shows The O’Reilly Factor and The Kelly File.”

Tonight, Special Report will continue with “The Presidential Contenders” news series profiling some of the men and women who may run for the Oval Office in 2016. Possible contenders include former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Indiana Governor Mike Pence, and Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, scheduled to appear on this evening’s segment.
