Los Angeles Lakers forward Lebron James often speaks before he thinks and lives to regret his words. On Wednesday, he made the same blunder.

James took to Twitter to brazenly bash Kyle Rittenhouse, the 18-year-old who is on a murder trial after the events of August 25, 2020, the night he shot three men (killing two) in what seems to be self-defense during the violent protests in Kenosha, WI.

James unleashed on Rittenhouse for crying during his self-defense testimony as he recounted the events of that fateful night.

“Ate Lemonheads before coming in,” really?

James’ criticism of Rittenhouse is vomit-inducing and shameful. Throughout the trial, Rittenhouse – who is only 18 – has shown admirable composure, confidence, tact, and respect, despite being put on trial for defending himself men who verbally threatened to kill him.

Furthermore, he testified in his own self-defense – a daring move for any court case -- and only broke down when he had to recount the events that led to him shooting the two men. Any normal human might be moved to tears when recounting such traumatic events. And wouldn’t you cry if you had been publicly dragged through the mud for a crime it seems you did not commit when all of the evidence appears to point to your innocence?

What we are seeing in the Rittenhouse case is a disgusting politicization of justice and due process, all of which likely caught up to Rittenhouse while he was defending himself and moved him to that level of emotion.

What makes this whole situation ironic is that James is no stranger to crying and whining. After all, he is notorious for pouting and complaining like a spoiled two-year-old during games when referees miss any call he feels should go his team’s way. He’s no stranger to living in victimhood, just not in real life.

That is why James’ comments to someone who cried over real-life tragedy is all the more disturbing. A man who has influence, power, and all the money he will ever need is using his platform to shame someone who is in a vulnerable position and is being attacked from all sides.

James has a history of going one step to far when voicing his opinion on political events, like when he targeted the police officer involved in the fatal shooting of 16-year old Ma’Khia Bryant in Columbus, OH in April (the officer shot Bryant in defense of another teenager that Bryant was attacking).

Maybe James would do better off if he learned to talk less and think more. But these days, that seems to be too much to ask of anyone.
