If you watch the return of “Last Man Standing” on Fox this coming fall, you might be surprised to see a couple of the characters looking starkly different than they did before the show was unceremoniously cancelled by ABC in May 2017.
Back in July, Deadline Hollywood reported that the roles of daughter “Mandy” and grandson “Boyd” — originally played by Molly Ephraim and Flynn Morrison, respectively — would be recast because Ephraim and Morrison opted not to return to the reboot of the show.
Recurring “Good Actress” actress Molly McCook and single-episode star of “Will & Grace” Jet Jurgensmeyer will take up the two vacant roles when the Tim Allen-led family comedy returns to TV screens for the upcoming fall season of Fox programming.
According to Deadline Hollywood, it looks as though the rest of the cast will be returning and reprising their previous roles:
The rest of the show’s core cast is back including Allen, Nancy Travis, Jonathan Adams, Amanda Fuller, Christoph Sanders and Jordan Masterson. Also back is co-star Hector Elizondo whose deal to return — made last month — was originally in second position to his NBC comedy pilot Guess Who Died. That pilot was not picked up by the network and was shopped unsuccessfully. The options on the cast recently lapsed, rendering everyone, including Elizondo, available to take other series jobs.
To be honest, as long as Tim Allen’s character of “Mike Baxter” continues to do his “webcam” monologues on the show, I’ll be a happy viewer.
“Last Man Standing” returns to TV on Fox this fall on Fridays at 8 p.m. Eastern.
