'Hero' of Las Vegas Breaks Down Recounting the Cop Who Saved His Life

As literal and figurative wounds continue to heal across the world after the Las Vegas massacre on Sunday, concertgoer and reluctant hero Jonathan Smith will never forget that fateful day and the actions of the police officer to whom he says he owes his life.

Under the chaos, screams, and bullets that rained down last Sunday night in Sin City, Smith ran back into the line of fire and saved at least 30 people at the Route 91 Harvest music festival before being shot in the neck and arm, rendering him defenseless and alone.

That was until off-duty police officer Tom McGrath saw Smith on the ground, dragged him to safety, and put his fingers in Smith's wounds to stop the bleeding.

A CNN interview by host Erin Burnett saw an emotional and thankful Smith recounting the details of the shooting, saying, "I still remember it vivd... I really can't explain why or what made me turn around. I just felt, you know what, if I can help one person or multiple people, at least that's someone's life that was spared."

Despite Burnett acknowledging Smith's heroic actions, Smith stated that he believes he only did what anyone would do, given the situation.

However, the police officer that saved his life believes otherwise, stating:

As someone who trains for things like this... I think he did something extraordinary. He showed tremendous bravery, and you know, he's somebody who inspires me. I know he might not want to give himself all the credit, but he definitely did a wonderful job and I was just happy to be there to help him towards the ends and get him out of there when he was hit.

Smith told Burnett that he is in "constant pain" from the bullet that is still lodged in his neck. The doctors are reluctant to remove the bullet for fear of causing further damage.
