Los Angeles is so upset over Alabama’s recently passed abortion ban, they’re actually prohibiting their employees from traveling to the state for work-related reasons.
According to this, Los Angeles County has actually made it illegal for all LA County employees to travel to Alabama for official business for one year, “with exceptions for emergency response training or other legally-required trips.”
“We must stand in solidarity and in opposition against extremist and unconstitutional laws that put the health and wellbeing of families at risk,” Solis said. “The constitutional and human right to a safe and legal abortion is part of the very fabric of the United States. As such, Los Angeles County will stand against all attempts to dismantle the protections afforded by Roe v. Wade and the U.S. Constitution.”
And they’re not the only ones. Colorado’s Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold threatened to withold state funding for employees to travel to Alabama, while the vice chairman of Maryland’s pension system similarly told his employees not to travel to Alabama on any official business.
Alabama’s abortion bill, signed by Republican Gov. Kay Ivey, makes it a felony for doctors to perform elective abortions for any reason other than to save the life or physical health of the mother. However, the bill does not criminalize women for getting an abortion.
