Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh during his testimony before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday broke down in tears when describing how his daughter the night before prayed for his accuser, Christine Blasey Ford.

He said that he and his family meant “no ill will” toward Ford and this was shown through his 10-year-old daughter, Liza, who said that they “should pray for the woman” the night before the hearing.

People reports,

Kavanaugh, 53, said in his opening testimony at the public hearing, ‘I intend no ill will to Dr. Ford and her family. The other night, Ashley and my daughter Liza said their prayers. And little Liza, all of 10 years old —’

Kavanaugh paused as his voice broke and he visibly choked up. Then he continued, ‘— said to Ashley, ‘We should pray for the woman.’ That’s a lot of wisdom from a 10 year old. We mean no ill will.’

He wiped his nose, shook his head and took a deep breath to regain composure.

Kavanaugh later added that he and his wife “knew this process would be challenging” when he accepted President Trump’s nomination, but “we never expected it would devolve into this.”

“Explaining this to our daughters has been about the worst experience of our lives,” said Kavanaugh.
