Kathy Griffin reportedly called Kevin Hart a "pussy" in an interview with USA Today. Why? Because he doesn’t bash President Trump enough for her liking.
"I do feel like this is such an anxiety-ridden time for everyone that there is a thirst for all kinds of comedy," Griffin said. "And look, if you want to not hear about Trump at all, go see Kevin Hart. He doesn't even mention Trump. I personally think that's a pussy move because he's a black man," she said, appearing to imply his race requires him to criticize the president.
The comment from Griffin was excluded from the USA Today story, but the magazine confirmed to The Washington Free Beacon that she did in fact say it.
"One of the things that's great about being a comedian is you really do get to be a whistleblower. I like to do it through comedy," Griffin said.
And, if you’re wondering, yes, this is the same Kathy Griffin who took a photo with a fake bloodied head of President Trump.
But it’s perfectly acceptable to joke about beheading the president and call people who don't bash him a "pussy" — as long as you’re a “whistleblower” comedian, right? Well, at least that’s what Griffin is implying.
Comedians have the right to say whatever they want, but they can’t hide behind their title once they’re rightfully criticized for being overly provocative.
Griffin’s racially charged comment towards Hart and violent depiction of the president are plain wrong — even for a comedian.
I’m all for edgy humor. But for the love of comedy, at least make it funny.
