During CNN’s Republican Presidential Town Hall in South Carolina Thursday night, Ohio governor John Kasich said that he’s “pro-Pope” in the war of words between the head of the Catholic Church and GOP presidential candidate Donald Trump.

“Put me down in the pro-Pope column,” said Kasich. “Look, this is a guy who said, when somebody asked him about somebody’s behavior that wasn’t consistent what they thought the scripture was, he said, who am I to judge? This man has brought more sense of hope and more about the do’s in life than the don’t’s.”

He went on to praise Pope Francis as “the essence of humility,” unlike Trump who does not shy away from boasting of his wealth and reputation.

Check out Kasich’s remarks below.

During a press conference on Wednesday, Pope Francis suggested that Trump “is not Christian” because of his calls for mass deportation and his plans to build a great wall between the U.S. and Mexico.

Trump responded in a press release, calling the Pope’s remarks “disgraceful." He also said that Pope Francis will have “wished and prayed” for Trump to be President “if and when the Vatican is attacked by ISIS.”
