Update (11/2/2019, 9:12 am): The Chicago Tribune is reporting that the suspect in CPD custody is a 15-year-old boy who's possibly a member or an initiate of the Gangster Two-Six gang.

According to the Tribune:

The teen, whose name was not released because he is a juvenile, faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated battery through discharge of a firearm, according to a Friday evening news release from Chicago police.

Original Story: Ugh. I can't even anymore with my hometown of Chicago. I love what the city has to offer in terms of the downtown area, but the South and West sides of the city have been neglected for far too long. There's too much violence, which leaves too many questions with no answers.

Case in point is what happened to a 7-year-old little girl in the Little Village neighborhood on Halloween.

According to WGN, the Chicago Police Department (CPD) currently have a "juvenile person of interest" in custody concerning the shooting of the girl while she was trick-or-treating Thursday evening. Embattled CPD Supt. Eddie Johnson told reporters that the girl's in critical condition, but she "has been stablized."

"Those involved don’t deserve to be in our city,” Johnson said on Friday. “I’m disgusted but committed to doing everything we can to find the cowards that would engage in a gun battle in early evening hours while children were trick-or-treating."

As if a shooting at any other time would've been better.

WGN reported:

The shooting happened at about 5:30 p.m. on Halloween Thursday near 26th Street and Lawndale Avenue while the girl was with her family.

Police said the girl, who was wearing a bumblebee costume, was walking on the other side of the street when she was shot by a gunman wearing a "Jason" mask. Authorities said she was shot in the lower neck and chest area.

Now, do you blame the gun for that or the waste of space that shot her?

You blame the monster that shot her, because, as the Chicago Tribune reported, authorities believe the gunman "is a member of the Gangster Two-Six gang and was targeting a Latin King" gang member. Police say a man close by, who was shot in the left hand, was supposedly the target. CPD has obtained a firearm which could be connected to the shooting.

The girl's father was screaming for anyone to help him, according to a witness. An employee at a nearby cellphone store not only took the family into the store, but also attempted to stop the bleeding by applying pressure to the girl's chest.

That employee should be hailed as a hero of sorts, because a little girl is still alive as a result of their quick thinking.

I hope that little girl remains strong and pulls through. Get your act together sooner than later, Chicago.
