Julian Castro announced he's bowing out of the Democratic presidential race in a four-minute video posted to Twitter on Thursday.
The Jan. 2, announcement makes Castro the first candidate to leave the race in 2020.
It’s with profound gratitude to all of our supporters that I suspend my campaign for president today.

I’m so proud of everything we’ve accomplished together. I’m going to keep fighting for an America where everyone counts—I hope you’ll join me in that fight. pic.twitter.com/jXQLJa3AdC
In the video Castro says he'll keep fighting for a nation "where kids like Trayvon can walk across their neighborhoods in peace. And, where Oscar and Valeria can walk to refuge."
Castro, the former Obama housing secretary, has faced low poll numbers and entered the end of 2019 struggling to raise funds for his campaign.
