Have you ever thought you had a one-liner that was so incredibly brilliant, yet once you said it out loud everyone who heard it questioned your sanity?

That happened on Sunday during the Ole Miss Rebels-LSU Tigers college football game, in which commentator Robert Griffin III made a rather questionable comparison to Jesus being crucified after a third down play late in the game.

LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels attempted to run for a first down, but was stopped by the Ole Miss defense, forcing a 4th-and-8.

That’s when Griffin III dropped his odd comparison about the play resembling Jesus getting murdered in the most brutal way mankind has conceived.

Take it away, RG3:

Sports history is full of memorable sound bites and calls from commentators, but this one will be remembered for its distaste and randomness.

In one sense, it's not surprising that Griffin would try to make a biblical reference during the call, since he claims to be a devout Christian. But using Jesus’ humiliated state as a comparison for one play in a college football game seems unnecessary, as many Twitter users pointed out.

Sometimes things are just better left unsaid, even if you think you’re being clever. Let’s hope Griffin learned that lesson Saturday.
