Do you have any plans for Thanksgiving? One USA Today columnist thinks you should cancel them.
Rex Huppke took time out of his Wednesday to call for President Joe Biden to cancel the holiday. The piece was published less than a full day before Thanksgiving actually takes place, so Huppke had the worst timing imaginable. But hey, it’s never too late to publish a psychotic call to arms, right?
Our sad little liberal writer is still bitter that Kamala Harris didn’t win the presidential election, and really wants to paint Trump supporters as - oh, what’s the word…deplorables? - to those who read his work. He began his column by saying that Trump voters aren’t all that happy that their candidate of choice won, and that they are all mindlessly angry because Trump’s rhetoric forces them to be.
Newsflash: Republicans are stoked that Trump won. While there are some unhinged Trump supporters on social media who will always complain about something, they aren’t the majority.
Huppke then went on to say that he could not afford to be in the company of people who voted for a candidate he didn’t like. He wrote:
“If you voted for an adjudicated rapist and convicted felon who wants to round up millions of human beings and put them in detention camps, who thinks transgender people shouldn’t exist, then we don’t have a common ground in which to chitchat over stuffing and pumpkin pie.”
This could be the part of my rebuttal where I tell Huppke the ugly truths about Harris - but I think I’ll keep that to myself. This is Thanksgiving, after all.
Huppke then ended with his official call to Biden to cancel the holiday:
“President Biden, if America has any hope of uniting, you need to cancel this Thanksgiving. Call it off. Take the loss. Let us regroup next year and see if we can give it another whirl.”
Gee, what a brilliant idea: sow more division and yell ruthlessly at the other side for exercising their right to think differently than you, and hope that all this division yields good results in 2025! Yeah, no thanks. I’ll be celebrating Thanksgiving with my family and whoever else I have the joy of seeing because there are tons to be thankful for, regardless of my political affiliation.
Also...some of us have a Trump victory to be grateful for…
