Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa made it clear that he supports Israel and not Hamas, something the National Football League (NFL) was hesitant to do.

After the Dolphins’ 42-21 win over the Carolina Panthers on Sunday, Tagovailoa took time during his press conference to address the horrific events taking place in Israel’s borders. He took one question from reporters, and then spoke openly about this topic.

“I kind of want to also just bring to the attention — I didn’t really realize how bad things were in Israel, and just wanted to bring to attention for those who don’t necessarily understand things that are going on, that it really is bad, and if you don’t understand, if you go on Google, you look, you search, and you read about what’s going on in this world,” Tagovailoa said. “This world needs prayer.”

The quarterback’s statement clearly showed he supports Israel, as he should. Thanks to Hamas brazenly sharing footage of their terrorism, we can see for ourselves just how brutally they are treating Israelis, especially women and children. Hamas soes not deserve one shred of support.

But the NFL as a whole seemed to hardly care about what was happening in Israel, and took a pathetic stance when they finally offered a statement.

Hamas began attacking Israel on October 7, and the league had 12 games scheduled the next day. Because Hamas made their terrorism videos so easily accessible, the NFL had plenty of time to form an opinion about who was in the wrong (spoiler: it's Hamas).

But the league didn’t say a thing about this. No social media, no official statements, nothing. Mind you, the NFL would have rushed to virtue signal if there was an example of “police brutality” dominating the news cycle.

But the league waited until two days after the initial attacks to release any form of a statement. Apparently, the NFL  needed some time to form an opinion on Jewish women and children being tortured and terrorized.

And their response was rather pathetic; the league didn’t fully support Israel and tried to remain neutral.

The ambiguity of the first sentence is what’s truly disturbing about the statement. Hamas has no moral high ground over Israel and deserves to be condemned. Thankfully, the NFL eventually started holding moments of silence before all of its Week 6 matchups, but the damage was done.

If the league truly wanted to provide a sufficient statement, it would have followed the blueprint laid out in Tagovailoa’s words. But this is the NFL we’re talking about, so don’t expect them to change their stance anytime soon.
