Brazilian Skateboarder Uses Sign Language To Share Bible Verse

I personally think that sign language is one of the coolest ways to communicate with people. On Sunday, 16-year-old Brazilian skater Rayssa Leal used sign language at the Olympics to communicate a powerful message.

With her final run in the women’s street skateboarding final, Leal landed a trick that vaulted her from fifth place to third and the bronze medal. It is now her second Olympic medal, after she won silver in the same event in the 2021 games in Tokyo.

After winning on Sunday, the camera panned to her.  Instead of celebrating arrogantly, Leal - who is Roman Catholic - used Brazilian sign language to “recite” a bible verse”

The verse in question was John 14:6, which reads:

Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

While sharing the message of salvation is powerful in and of itself, what makes it even more amazing is that she was allegedly told she was not allowed to do something like this.

But, she let her faith shine through anyway.

I am absolutely blown away by the beauty of this moment.

While the Olympics were busy celebrating drag queens mocking the Last Supper, Leal spread a message far more powerful than the darkness we saw from the opening ceremonies - all while not using a single spoken word in that moment.

Additionally, she verbally praised God after the win.

“When I was very young, I dreamed of becoming a skateboard athlete,” Leal said. “And here I am, with a second Olympic medal from the Games. Once again, thank God I won a medal. I’m very happy to be here.”

I am so, so thankful that we have athletes who are standing up for Jesus while Olympic event organizers attempt to mock faith in Him.
