If you ever needed to understand the extent of the size of the bubble that celebrities and media personalities live in, look no further than R&B crooner John Legend. Don’t get me wrong, the dude has some serious singing chops, but his talent seems to end there as it appears he has no idea what he’s talking about — let alone being aware of why fans don’t like a certain something.
That certain something in this instance is his cover version of the Christmas classic “Baby, It’s Cold Outside,” which also features songstress Kelly Clarkson.
The song is basically a PC-scrubbed version of the original, which some critics have panned because of the recent #MeToo movement. But most people with an intellect still favor the original, as evidence by the hate the new version has received.
Legend’s version of the song has received a mountain of backlash on pretty much every platform you can think of. While the official audio video of the song has been viewed on YouTube nearly 1.3 million times, that has also come with, as of this writing, only a little over 10,000 up thumbs up votes as opposed to over 20,000 thumbs down votes.
The comment section for the song hasn’t been much kinder to Legend.
“They should rename it ‘baby just go outside,’” one commenter wrote.
“I don’t care what people say, the original is always the best,” another person responded.
Legend said in a recent interview with The Guardian that he thought the song was supposed to be “fun” and not “preachy at all.”
It’s not clear if by saying the song was supposed to be “fun” whether Legend meant that he thought people would enjoy the new version or whether he wrote the new version as being “fun” by mocking the original. However, Legend said that he “never disparaged the old version.”
The original version was written in 1944 by Frank Loesser.
Breitbart pointed out where in the interview Legend seemed to lose the plot.
Here’s an excerpt from Legend’s comments, in which Legend also took the opportunity - which leftist celebrities never waste - to disparage President Donald Trump:
It’s interesting this whole backlash to the #MeToo movement. People thinking we’ve gone too far speaking up for a woman’s right to not get raped or sexually harassed when some would argue we’ve not gone far enough when we have an admitted sexual assailant in the highest office in the land. People think that because some people have lost their jobs, or have been expelled from Hollywood, like Weinstein, that we’ve gone too far. I don’t agree. But people wanted the Baby, It’s Cold Outside war to be a proxy war for all that.
What?! Come on, John. People want to like you, but you keep shooting yourself in the foot with these stupid comments that only reveal the bubble you live in.
Where are all these people who condone rape? Please tell me. I’ll wait…
Also, where are all these people getting upset that creepy pervert, scumbag Harvey Weinstein doesn’t have a job anymore? Again, I’ll wait…
People had enough of the #MeToo when the #BelieveAllWomen movement infiltrated it and began going after men for little to no reason, regardless of whether or not the woman in question was telling the truth.
Of course rape is horrible. No one defends it, except maybe actual rapists. And of course Weinstein is an absolute disgusting waste of everyone’s time. But, if Legend really thinks that’s what the average person really believes, he’s more out of touch with the real world than people already thought.
