MSNNC’s Joe Scarborough is rewriting history in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, now claiming that “everybody” other than Donald Trump knew as early as January that this virus was going to cause a global meltdown

“Everybody saw this coming. Everybody saw this coming in early January,” Scarborough claimed Wednesday morning on “Morning Joe.”

And the lie detector test proved: that was a lie.

In fact, not only was no one in the media, including Joe, predicting this crisis in early January – many liberal politicians, including Nancy Pelosi, AOC, Bill de Blasio, NYC Health Commissioner Oxsiris Barbot, and others, went on the record as late as February and even mid-March claiming that this virus wasn’t that bad and that people should go about their lives as usual, even encouraging them to patron restaurants and attend large parades.

In fact, in early January, China was still downplaying the spread of the coronavirus within its own borders, with barely a mention anywhere in the U.S. media about the illness at all, much less an impending global crisis. Even after the virus began making headlines across the world and in the U.S., many outlets downplayed the seriousness of the disease, comparing it to the flu and pointing out that the vast majority of Americans would either not get sick or would merely experience "mild" symptoms.

And it looks like Joe missed the boat, too. As Tom Elliot with Grabien Media notes, the first mention of the coronavirus on Morning Joe wasn’t until January 24, when the show brought on an “expert” to say that “Americans do not need to panic” over the coronavirus but should be worried about the seasonal flu, instead.
