Outspoken Trump Critic Jennifer Lawrence Says Trump Supporters' 'Plight is Very Real'

Even outspoken President Trump critic Jennifer Lawrence says that the Democrats failed to win against Trump in 2016 because they made the “huge mistake” of mocking his supporters “when their plight is very real.”

In an interview with Vanity Fair published Monday, the “Hunger Games” star and Oscar-winning actress said that Democrats erred by chastising Trump’s supporters, which she called “disgusting.”

“Of course they’re not going to vote for Hillary Clinton; they’re going to vote for Donald Trump,” she said. “You laughed at them when their plight is very real.”

Lawrence also told Vanity Fair that she has always felt it "not wise, career-speaking, to talk about politics” as a Hollywood actress.

“Twenty-five percent of America identifies as liberal and I need more than 25 percent of America to go see my movies. It’s not wise, career-speaking, to talk about politics,” she said, while promoting her new movie, “Red Sparrow.”

But, Lawrence added, “When Donald Trump got sworn into office, that f---ing changed.”

A self-proclaimed feminist, Lawrence said at an event in New York City over the weekend that the election of Trump -- which left her “helpless,” “scared,” and “devastated” -- motivated her to educate herself and get more involved in politics.

She told Vanity Fair that her family who lives in Kentucky “obviously hates every time I talk about politics”:

“My family obviously hates every time I talk about politics because it’s hard to see your kid get criticized and they live in Kentucky, where nobody is really liking what I’m saying,” said Lawrence.

But, she said, “If I’m thinking something, I’ve made it very clear I’m going to talk about it.”

Lawrence, who was a Clinton supporter in 2016 and currently serves as a board member of the anti-government corruption organization Represent.Us, has made her disdain for President Trump no secret.

During an interview with Oprah Winfrey in December, Lawrence said that if she had the opportunity to speak with Trump, she would end her speech with “a martini to the face.”

She told Vogue in a 2015 interview that if Trump became President it would "be the end of the world."
