Three people are dead, including one woman beheaded, following what authorities have already dubbed a terrorist attack in a Cathedral in Nice, France.

According to police, a man began stabbing people at the Notre Dame Basilica on Thursday just after Mass began at 9 a.m., killing two victims and severing at least one woman’s head before police swarmed the building. A third victim was stabbed but managed to make it outside the church, where she fled to a nearby bar and died from her wounds. Mayor Christian Estrosi said the suspect was shot by police but survived and has been transferred to a nearby hospital.

"At this moment, we have, without any doubt, two dead inside the church, in a horrible way," Estrosi explained at a press conference shortly after the incident.

"It seems that, according to the first findings of the police, the woman who was inside the church has been decapitated. For the other victims, we cannot say anything at the moment," he added.

In a detail notably left out by CNN, the Daily Mail reports that Estrosi noted the attacker “kept shouting Allahu Akbar even after being medicated,” and that “the meaning of his gesture is not in doubt.” The incident is now being investigated as an act of terrorism.

“Enough is enough,” Estrosi told local reporters, according to Reuters. “It’s time now for France to exonerate itself from the laws of peace in order to definitively wipe out Islamo-fascism from our territory.”

This marks the third terrorist attack since the September kickoff of the trial for 14 accomplices of the two Muslim brothers who killed 12 and wounded nearly a dozen more at the offices of French magazine Charlie Hebdo in 2015. the Notre Dame Basilica also sits just a few blocks away from the market where, in 2016, a van driven by a Muslim extremist plowed into a crowd of shoppers on Bastille Day, killing 86 people and injuring 458 others.
