Inspired By March For Our Lives, DC Considers Lowering Voting Age to 16

If you think those that cannot legally purchase a rifle from a licensed dealer should be voting for President of the United States, a Washington, D.C. councilman has the bill for you.

Councilmember Charles Allen introduced The Youth Vote Amendment Act of 2018 Tuesday.

According to a WJLA report:

Proponents of the 16-year old vote in D.C. greeted council members before today’s legislative session, where Ward 6 Council Member Charles Allen introduced such a bill. Referring to the teens from Parkland, Florida and the activity they have sparked.

'I think anybody that’s been watching these young voices over the last couple of months has to come away with the understanding that these are powerful voices.'

In the WJLA piece we are assured that Allen’s bill would “allow 16 year olds to vote for everything in DC – including president.”

If D.C. passes the legislation, it would be the first major city in the U.S. to do so. Some other communities have passed laws allowing 16 year olds to vote in municipal elections.
