Indian Politician Gives Children Communist-Themed Names

An Indian political candidate has a strange tradition for naming his children.

The terms "Communism," "Leninism" and "Socialism" are usually relegated to the chapters of political science textbooks discussing failed political systems of the 20th century. But for A. Mohan, a candidate for the Communist Party of India, these were the names that he gave to his sons.

According to a report in the Times of India, Mohan stood by the names and at least one of his sons doesn't seem to mind his unusual title.

"My forefathers were communists and so am I," said Mohan, 48. "Communism is in my blood. So, the names seemed appropriate for my sons."

Mohan's oldest son, Communism, is a 24-year-old advocate who has been practising for the past one year. His younger sons, Leninism and Socialism, both hold BCom degrees and run a silver anklet manufacturing unit.

Communism said he quite enjoys the fact that he has an unusual name. "If I say my name, it never fails to raise eyebrows. It's unusual and people always want to know why I've been named Communism," he said.

No word yet on whether Mohan's children will follow in the tradition. But just imagine having a grandchild named Maoism.
