Thor made the announcement on Twitter.

Following a series of tweets critical of President Trump and challenging the president to a debate, Thor tweeted, "If no conservative steps up, I will absolutely challenge Donald Trump in 2020. America deserves better leadership." Thor tweeted some of his criticism of the president: "No wall. No end to ObamaCare. Planned Parenthood Fully Funded. HUGE deficit + debt. Trump doesn't have a clue what he's doing. He's the straight-up Chauncey Gardiner of American politics."

Chauncey Gardiner is a charcter in the 1979 film "Being There." Gardiner is a literal gardener whose ignorant and inexpert advice is taken by the President of the United States.

Minutes later, Thor announced, "In fact, let's make it official. I'm in." Thor then tweeted, "Heads up @realDonaldTrump. The era of know-nothing, insult-comedy politics is over. Leadership, stability, and intelligence are on the way back. #Thor2020"

Thor is the author of several bestselling books, including "Use of Force," "Foreign Agent," "The Last Patriot" and "Code of Conduct." His new novel, "Spy Master," will be released in July.

Thor describes himself as a classical conservative who disdains both the left and the alt-right, once calling them "a cancer to our side."

Contacted by MRCTV and asked the tweets were for real, Thor replied, "Yup. We need to start organizing now to get rid of Trump."
