Illinois Now Requires Foster Families To Be Pro-LGBTQ

It does not matter if you have a stable income, a safe place to live, or a genuine desire to welcome disadvantaged children into your family: if you don’t subscribe to the transgender ideology (i.e. if you believe that there are only two genders), the state of Illinois does not want you as a foster parent.

Mary Rice Hasson of the Ethics and Public Policy Center exposed this disturbing new policy in an article for the Federalist published Tuesday. With the help of the ACLU, the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS) just made a “landmark revision” to their policy for the “Support and Well-Being of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (LGBTQ) Children and Youth.”

Hasson reports that the new guidelines mean the DCFS will not tolerate employees or foster families who would not “support and respect” a child’s exploration of gender identity or sexual orientation. Further, if a child reports to an employee that they are having doubts about their gender identity or sexuality, the employee is instructed not to disclose this information to the parents.

If that was not disturbing enough, according to the Federalist, the same policy requires state employees to “consult the LGBTQ czar for referrals related to a child’s mental health or medical issues related to ‘gender transition.’” It’s safe to assume, Hasson argues, that these referrals will be to healthcare professionals who subscribe to the transgender ideology and support practices like prescribing children with puberty-blockers or hormone therapy.

Last week in Minnesota, a judge struck down a mother’s claim that her rights were violated when her teenage son began to medically “transition” into a female against her wishes. This precedent, and the new DCFS policy in Illinois, makes it clear that radical advocates of transgenderism do not want parents involved in their children’s life choices regarding gender and sexuality experimentation. According to these policies, the state knows better and will do a “better” job.
