An illegal alien in Maryland has been arrested and charged with first-degree rape, sex abuse of a minor, and first-degree assault after allegedly raping a 16-year-old girl while holding her at knifepoint in her bedroom.
The county where the accused 46-year-old Nelson Saul Reyes-Medrano was arrested, Montgomery County, Md., is designated as a “sanctuary” as of July. But thankfully, because of the “severity of the allegations,” the suspect has been denied bail by Montgomery County District Court, according to reporting by Fox News and local station ABC 7 WJLA on Tuesday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement have lodged a detainer request against Reyes-Medrano with local law enforcement.
The attack allegedly took place in Germantown, Md., in late August 2018. The man was said to have been living in the same apartment as the teenage girl and assaulted her when she was napping.
Fox News reports,
A Montgomery County District Court denied bond for Reyes-Medrano, citing the severity of the allegations and pending ICE detainer, WJLA reported.
‘The allegations are incredibly serious,’ Judge Amy Bills said in court. "The allegations are that a knife was brandished and a first-degree rape occurred.’
The latest arrest comes after another illegal immigrant accused of rape was released from the Montgomery County Detention Center just three days after being arrested. At the time, county officials said they notified ICE that the suspect was being processed for release that day, even after the federal agency filed a detainer.
Montgomery County, Md., designated itself for ‘sanctuary’ status in July, according to FOX5.
According to the ICE detainer request documents obtained by WJLA, Reyes-Medrano is a Salvadorian national who has been living in the U.S. illegally.
The relationship between Reyes-Medrano and the victim has not been made public, though it is reported that the accused rapist has 10 children and six of them are under the age of 18.
