U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) wants Americans to understand just how dangerous so-called “sanctuary” policies are to their public safety.
ICE in a recent press release addressing Washington state, which most recently adopted a sanctuary state law in May, listed a number of disturbing cases where criminal illegal aliens were released by local law enforcement without notifying federal immigration authorities or otherwise blatantly disregarding detainer requests.
Several of these illegal aliens went on to allegedly commit crimes such as murder, rape, and assault.
One such alien released by local police was a charged child rapist and was later arrested again on charges of assault. Another had “prior criminal convictions and four prior removals from the United States” and pursuant to his release he was arrested for “murdering, dismembering victim,” according to ICE.

According to ICE, Rosalio Ramos-Ramos was arrested last January for murder and dismembering his victim. It happened just months after Ramos was released from a Washington jail despite ICE’s request for an immigration detainer and notification of his pending release, neither of which were honored.
ICE also cites the case of Mexican national Martin Gallo-Gallardo, who was in a Clackamas County Oregon jail. The statement said jail officials ignored ICE’s request for an immigration detainer and notification of release. Gallardo was released and within months was re-arrested, this time for allegedly murdering his wife.
The most recent case involves Francisco Carranza-Ramirez, who was also in the U.S. illegally. He was convicted of raping a wheelchair-bound Seattle woman twice. He was sentenced to time served and released, under the judge’s order that he self-deport back to Mexico. King County Sheriff’s officials say he eventually did return to Mexico, but not before assaulting his victim a third time.
ICE in the press release emphasizes the importance of cooperation by local officials to ensure public safety and warns that policy makers impeding on federal immigration efforts are only harming "the communities whose welfare they have sworn to protect":
When law enforcement agencies fail to honor immigration detainers and release serious criminal offenders onto the streets, it undermines ICE’s ability to protect public safety and carry out its mission.
ICE maintains that cooperation by local officials is an indispensable component of promoting public safety. Policy makers who strive to make it more difficult to remove dangerous criminal aliens and aim to stop the cooperation of local officials and business partners, harm the very communities whose welfare they have sworn to protect.
This comes after Washington Democratic Gov. Jay Inslee signed a sanctuary state law May 22 which expanded policies already in place to apply to not only state law enforcement, but all local law enforcement, including city and county levels, as MRCTV reported.
"Our state agencies are not immigration enforcement agencies," said Inslee regarding the signing. "We will not be complicit in the Trump administration's depraved efforts to break up hard-working immigrant and refugee families."
Washington joined states such as Oregon and California that have adopted such sanctuary policies impeding federal immigration enforcement efforts.
