ICE Deports Illegal Alien Wanted For Murder in Mexico - But Only After He'd Killed Someone In New Jersey

2.6k views

U.S Immigration and Customs Enforcement say they just deported an illegal alien back to Mexico where he’s wanted for murder – but only after he’d already killed someone in the United States, too.

Authorities say the 63-year-old Mexican man, identified in a press release as “Betancourt,” entered the United States illegally sometime in 1991. Six years later, he was arrested and convicted of manslaughter in New Jersey, where he was sentenced to 25 years in prison.

Upon his recent release, he was ordered to be deported by an immigration judge and turned over to ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations, who flew him on a chartered jet back to Mexico where he faces separate murder charges stemming from before he entered the U.S.

While Betancourt’s deportation marks another small victory for U.S. immigration enforcement, it’s barely a drop in the bucket when it comes to ICE’s daunting task of deporting illegal aliens who’ve committed crimes in the United States. In the last fiscal year alone, ICE reports they arrested 158,581 illegal aliens, of which 87 percent – or about 138,000 aliens – were either convicted criminals or had pending criminal charges at the time of their arrest.

More than 6,500 of those arrested were convicted murderers or sex offenders.
