I Like Calvin Coolidge

And you should too:

“I want the people of America to be able to work less for the government and more for themselves."

Modern day liberals could learn a lot from this speech, which is the first time a President was recorded on video with sound, given over 85 years ago. In fact, all of us could learn from this speech. In fact, this speech should be required viewing for all American school children.

This speech is the quintessential argument for fiscal conservatism. It explains the seen and unseen burdens of government on the individual. It even gives practical examples of the effect of government on our wallets, though the examples given could use some updating obviously.

Can you imagine a modern rendition of this speech? With the figures updated to match the vastly more oppressive government we have today and, perhaps, a more forceful and fluent speaker with a modern professional film crew. That would be the new gold standard, so to speak, in conservative fiscal messaging.
