Hillary Clinton has a long list of excuses for losing the 2016 election, but she just added another. She says identifying as a capitalist “probably” hurt her in her presidential campaign.
In a Wednesday interview at the Shared Value Leadership Summit in New York, Clinton was asked if being a capitalist did some damage with Democratic voters.
“Probably. It’s hard to know, but I mean if you’re in the Iowa caucuses and 41 percent of Democrats are socialists or self-described socialists, and I’m asked ‘Are you a capitalist?’ and I say, ‘Yes, but with appropriate regulation and appropriate accountability.’ You know, that probably gets lost in the ‘Oh my gosh, she’s a capitalist!’ ” Clinton said.
Perhaps she has a point with this particular excuse. I'm sure not being a socialist can really hurt the popularity of a candidate in the modern Democratic party - but are we sure she is a capitalist?
