In an interview with CNN host Fareed Zakaria, Hillary Clinton stated she would give the money that she received in donations from disgraced Hollywood producer, Harvey Weinstein, to charity.
Well, sort of.
In response to Zakaria asking her if she would give the money back, the former presidential candidate stated, “Well, there’s no one to give it back to. What other people are saying, what my former colleagues are saying, is they’re going to donate it to charity, and of course I will do that. I give 10 percent of my income to charity every year, this will be part of that. There’s no doubt about it.”
Although she stated that she will “of course” follow in the steps of her colleagues in donating the money to charity, her statement begs a few important questions: To where and in what manner will she give away the Weinstein cash, and what does 10 percent of her income have to do with anything? Is she only planning to give $2,683.2 of the $26,832 she received from Weinstein in campaign contributions?
And, if she was already planning to give 10 percent of her income anyway, wouldn't this just end up being...well, the same exact amount as she was going to give before?
Clinton’s interview came as a follow-up to a statement she released on Tuesday -- five full days after news broke of Weinstein's history of sexual harassment -- in which she stated that she was “shocked and appalled” by the allegations. In the interview with Zakaria, she also claimed to have no idea about Weinstein’s past sexual abuse.
When Zakaria asked Clinton if she would have called him a friend, she replied, “Yes, I probably would have, and so would so many others. People in Democratic politics appreciated his help and support.”
