A 12-year-old boy in Goldsboro, North Carolina shot at intruders who intended to burglarize his home after shooting his grandmother.

The two suspects entered the home in the early morning hours on Saturday, shot the boy’s 73-year-old grandmother, Linda Ellis, before the boy shot at both of the intruders reportedly striking one who later died.

According to WTVD:

Both [Ellis and the wounded suspect] were taken to Wayne UNC Health Care. The man, identified as Khalil Herring, 19, of Goldsboro, died from his injuries.

The investigation revealed two masked people forced their way into the residence, demanded money and shot the 73-year-old woman in the leg. During the robbery, a 12-year-old shot the intruders with a firearm in self-defense, causing them to flee. Evidence suggests Herring was one of the two masked intruders and was shot during the robbery.

Ellis is reportedly in stable condition after being treated for non “life-threatening” injuries.

Ellis’ son, Randolph Bunn, praised the boy for his actions, intimating that the suspects would’ve “killed us all” had the boy not done what he did.

“[The intruder] just shot his grandma,” Bunn said, according to WTVD. “He would have shot him too, he would've shot me too, he would've killed us all.”

The boy is a hero. This is just another example of a good guy — or boy in this case — with a gun stopping a criminal from causing any more harm to his family.
