Recent killings and attacks on police officers continue to make headlines, showcasing a narrative of violence and hatred toward local law enforcement.

One man, a resident of Ferguson, Mo., has taken it upon himself to make a Facebook page entitled “Cards for Cops,” where he encourages social media users to post messages with addresses of police officers and firefighters, honoring them for the good and impactful work that they do.

The creator of the page explains,

“I live in Ferguson, MO, and I post that address a bunch because the turmoil is still real here.

“I also know the cards make a real positive impact to the officers. My mission is to have them feel appreciated, and saying thank you is a small way of making their day better.”

He urges readers to continue sending him addresses of either whole departments or specific officers they would like honored, to whom he and other Facebook users personally mail letters.

“We are making a difference together,” he said, “and for that, I thank you all.”

On the page, police officers and firefighters are recognized for all sorts of reasons—whether it be a particular good deed, an exceptional career, or even a birthday.

Readers are also encouraged to post photos such as the two below.

More and more people are taking the initiative to show their love and respect for our men and women in blue.

On New Year’s Day, a group of Chicago residents lined their neighborhood streets with blue ribbons in a gesture of gratitude.

Meanwhile, in St. Louis, Mo., dozens of people gathered in front of the city's Metropolitan Police Department headquarters armed with lovely signs and bright blue balloons to reassure local cops that they “back the badge.”
