Hear Leftists Howl: Majority of Capitol Rioters Will Probably Receive ‘Little Or No Jail Time’

Bad news for all the bloodthirsty leftists on Twitter: most of the Jan. 6 Capitol rioters probably won't spent any time behind bars for their roles in the "insurrection" that Democrats have labeled the single greatest threat to democracy in our lifetime.

According to Politico, “...many of those who invaded the halls of Congress on Jan. 6 are likely to get little or no jail time," as numerous judges, defense attorneys, and even prosecutors involved in the trials of the rioters believe that a majority of the defendants will not receive “harsh sentences.”

The fact is that most of the rioters can only be charged with trespassing, in spite of all the wild leftist rantings about insurrection and sedition. A quarter of those charged “face only misdemeanors.”

“The punishment has to be proportional to the harm, but I think for many of us, we’ll never forget watching TV Jan. 6 and seeing people wilding out in the Capitol,” said Paul Butler, a professor at Georgetown who used to be a federal prosecutor. “Everybody who was there was complicit, but they’re not all complicit to the same degree for the same harm.”

As many as four misdemeanor charges have been leveled against various defendants, which could result in a three-year prison sentence. But attorneys dismissed the likelihood of that happening. Butler asserted that “nobody goes to jail for a first or second misdemeanor.”

Another attorney, who wished to remain anonymous, pointed out that some of the rioters had not technically committed any flagrant violations against the law.

“What about somebody who has no criminal record who got jazzed up by the president, walked in, spends 15 minutes in Statuary Hall and leaves,” the attorney asked. “What happens to that person? They’re not going to get a jail sentence for that.”
