'Golden Girls' Latest Victims Of Cancel Culture - Hulu Cuts 'Mud Mask' Episode

If you feel like you want to thank someone for being a friend by watching every episode of the 1980s sitcom “The Golden Girls” on Hulu, you won’t be able to watch every single episode of the show. That’s right. Cancel culture has come for everyone’s favorite elderly ladies.

Variety reported over the weekend that streaming giant Hulu has removed an episode of “The Golden Girls” because of a scene that has been construed as a couple of the ladies being in blackface.

According to Variety:

“Mixed Blessings,” episode 23 in season 3 of the sitcom, aired in 1988. In the episode, Michael (Scott Jacoby), the son of Dorothy (Beatrice Author), plans to wed a much older Black woman, Lorraine (Rosalind Cash). Dorothy is critical of their age difference and Lorraine’s family disapproves of their daughter marrying a white man, so the two families attempt to stop the marriage.

Lorraine’s family arrives as Rose (Betty White) and Blanche (Rue McClanahan) are testing out a new mud face treatment. The two greet the family with their masks still on, saying to them “This is mud on our faces, we’re not really Black.”

Folks, context does NOT matter anymore. Notice how Hulu didn't really care about the wealthy black family in the episode not wanting the daughter to marry a white guy. If you watch the scene in question, the moral of it ends up being that it doesn't matter what your age or race is as long as the two people love each other. But that's not a message that those who deal in cancel culture want to convey. They want separation of races. They want division.

“Activists,” who are also making major entertainment companies take a knee in worship of their social justice self-righteousness, are getting everything they want by having anything cancelled or removed because people other than them might be offended by something.

First of all, it was a joke. I understand that the majority of people don't know what actual humor is anymore,

I’m sorry, but I genuinely think it’s way past time for people to get more offensive. I’m saying that people should offend others with actual racism and/or sexism. That does no one any good. TV characters from the past — like “All in the Family” lead character “Archie Bunker” or “The Jeffersons” lead character "George Jefferson" — were racist in some of what they said on their respective shows. But, people laughed together about it because it’s easier to live with others when we acknowledge our differences with letting those differences define each other.

This is why — even though digital streaming is convenient — that I collect physical media, like DVDs, Blu-rays and 4K Blu-rays. These “services,” like HBO Max, Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu, might get rid of certain things here and there simply because they don’t want to deal with anyone complaining. But, I will always have my personal library of movies and TV shows that will NEVER be censored because they can’t take away the physical media I paid for and own.

It’s getting pretty ridiculous. It’s time to fight back by either not giving these platforms our money or taking our business elsewhere. Some of these companies might be “woke,” but they answer to the almighty dollar.
