Giuliani Facing Death Threats; Fmr. Staffer Says He’s No Longer 'America’s Mayor'

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani continues to encounter backlash and even death threats concerning his remarks about President Obama not loving America.

Former Giuliani aide Mike Paul joined the choir of critics, expressing disappointment in his former boss.

On MSNBC's “Hardball with Chris Matthews” Friday night, the Paul criticized Giuliani not only for questioning the President’s patriotism, but also for capitalizing on 9/11 to position himself as “America’s mayor.”

“I actually think that he has lost the throne of being able to be successfully called ‘America’s mayor’ any more quite frankly, not only because of his recent comments, but the way he positioned himself after 9/11.”

He continued, “The best approach—the best way to describe yourself after 9/11—is to say, there are men and women put their lives on the line in the city that I govern, but they did the work; they are the ones who sacrificed themselves. And a large percentage of the money that he’s made and a large percent of the reputation that he’s gained needs to go back to those men and women.”

Amid criticism via broadcast and digital media, Giuliani told CNN that he has also received death threats since his controversial commentary.

"My secretary has received some death threats," Giuliani said. He noted, however, that the majority of the voicemails left at his office were supportive of his remarks.

Radio talk show host Mark Levin is one among many who have commended the former mayor for speaking his mind.

"I don't regret making the statement," Giuliani said. "I believe it. I don't know if he loves America.”
