'The Ghost of Kyiv' Is Becoming a Legend As Ukrainians Stand Their Ground

Social media lit up Thursday with reports of a lone Ukrainian fighter jet flying over Kyiv and taking out Russian planes in air-to-air combat.

Nicknamed the “Ghost of Kyiv,” one solitary MiG-29 pilot has reportedly taken down at least three – and as many as six – Russian jets as Vladimir Putin continues his all-out assault on the sovereign nation of Ukraine. Few shots of the plane have been captured, and no one is quite sure who he is - or whether the reports circulating about him are true.

But whether the stories are entirely accurate or cobbled together through hearsay and rumor, two things are for absolute certain: whoever is in this plane is quickly becoming a legend, and the embattled free people of Ukraine are on the lookout for a hero.

Thirteen Ukrainian soldiers who died while guarding Snake Island have already been awarded "Heroes of Ukraine," the nation's highest honor, after they could be heard telling a Russian warship to "go f*** yourself" before the enemy opened fire, killing them all.
