Freshman Democratic Rep. Cites Her Son's Murder 7 Years Ago As Why She Supports Impeachment

Forget high crimes and misdemeanors – freshman Democratic Rep. Lucy Bath claims her son’s murder seven years ago is what's ultimately prompting her to vote “yes” on impeaching President Donald Trump.

In a strangely off-topic speech Wednesday on the question of impeachment, McBath, a recently elected Georgia congresswoman representing the state's 6th District, detailed how her son, Jordan, was shot to death seven years ago at a gas station after the gunman allegedly claimed he and his friends were playing their music too loud.

"I found myself asking God how could this happen, how did He allow this to happen to me, to my family and to Jordan? I prayed to God and found the strength to forgive my killer," she said.

"I made a promise to my community that I would act," she went on. "I promised that I would take that sense of protection, that love a mother has for her son and I would use it for my community, for the American people."

“I came to Washington full of hope and empowered by my community to serve them in Congress...but after this vote, I will continue to champion the ideals that this country instilled in me. To stand up for the safety and security of our communities and to fight for an America I prayed that my son Jordan would be proud of,” McBath continued.

While obviously tragic, it’s still not clear what McBath’s son’s death more than half a decade ago has to do with whether or not President Trump committed a crime and is worthy of being impeached. Then again, Democrats have already admitted – repeatedly, in fact – that their efforts are aimed at keeping Trump from being re-elected in 2020. So it’s largely apparent that constitutional grounds for impeachment aren’t of a particularly high priority, here.
