Environmentalists seem to pick a new boogeyman every couple of years and huddle around it, planting all their time and energy into demonizing the target by exaggerating facts and tugging at the emotional heart strings of the well-intentioned.

It's sad, really. They deceive people into thinking they're doing something great for the earth, and who wouldn't want to be a part of that? Unfortunately, and deliberately, they fail to leave out the real world impacts and consequences. Need we look any further than Cap and Trade? Talk about what would have been a devastating blow during an already shaky economy.

Now, environmentalists have set their sights on something completely different after the implosion of Cap and Trade: Fracking.

Ann McElhinney and Phelim McAleer, directors/producers of Not Evil Just Wrong (full disclosure: which I assisted them with) and Mine Your Own Business, are tired of the lies and misinformation on fracking being spewed out to the public at large by people such as Josh Fox- director and producer of Gasland.

Now, they're embarking on a mission to counter that documentary- such as they did with Not Evil Just Wrong (counter to Al Gore's An Inconvient Truth)- and are taking an entirely different approach with this movie.

To fund the film, they're taking a crowdsourced approach by using a site called Kickstarter.com.

Kickstarter is a website that allows people to fund projects, typically left leaning projects which makes it even more surprising they've taken them up on the documentary. No corporations, no special interests, nothing more than every day people sitting at home reading this.

The people determine whether this movie gets made or not. It needs to raise $150,000 in the next 45 days or all funding returns to the donors. Currently, the documentary is sitting at a little over $90,000. If it reaches the amount needed, it gets put into production. If not, then the ultra left leaning Gasland is the only documentary out there explaining fracking.

The cool thing about the project is that you can become and Executive Producer of FrackNation- with your name even printed in the credits if you so please- for only $1.

Check out more about the documentary straight from Ann and Phelim.

UPDATE: Phelim McAleer fought a censorship battle versus Josh Fox last June- director of Gasland- for calling him out on claims in his film.
