Former Mayor of New York City Bill de Blasio (D.) and his wife, Chirlane McCray, announced they are separating after nearly 30 years of marriage and will start to see other people, but are not getting divorced and will continue to live in the same house.
Ew, how strange! But wait – the story gets even weirder.
Apparently, McCray identified as a lesbian when the pair started dating in the 90s, and de Blasio says he has had underlying anxiety about their relationship since.
"I discovered my preference for women early, before getting locked into a traditional marriage and having children," McCray wrote in an article titled “I am a Lesbian” published in 1979.
Apparently this wasn’t enough of a yellow flag for de Blasio to pull the brakes, though.

"For the guy who took the chance on a woman who was an out lesbian and wrote an article called 'I Am a Lesbian,'" de Blasio told the New York Times, "there was a part of me that would at times say, 'Hmmm, is this like a time bomb ticking? Is this something that you're going to regret later on?' So I always lived with that stuff."
However, the former NYC mayor clearly went through with the lovely idea of marriage, and only after nearly 30 years seems willing to admit that just maybe he made a mistake.
According to People, McCray and de Blasio first discussed the subject of a separation during an evening after watching TV, when de Blasio asked why she isn't "lovey-dovey anymore."
That night, they decided to call it quits – sort of. Even though the two will continue to be legally married and living together, they plan on being open to seeing others.
According to NBC News, McCray said “I just want to have fun” before quickly turning to de Blasio and adding, “It’s not that we haven’t had fun.”
“Thank you, honey,” he responded.
DeBlasio cited his 7 years as mayor and the Covid pandemic as two major sources of strain on their relationship.
Perhaps not shutting down businesses and schools and resigning from office would have been a better option?
Ultimately, this is an amazing example of the extent to which left-wing elites lack any sense of morality. No respect for the sanctity of marriage, no respect for their self-worth, and such willingness to display it to the public!
