Forget 'Abortion': VA Gov. Ralph Northam Suggests Unwanted Infants Can Be Killed AFTER Birth

If Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam isn’t a proponent of infanticide after birth, he should probably issue a serious clarification post-haste – because that’s exactly what his recent comments on a local radio program seemed to suggest.

Speaking on WTOP’s “Ask The Governor” Wednesday, Northam defended his position supporting a bill proposed in the Virginia Assembly that would legalize elective abortions on demand through the ninth month of pregnancy all the way up until the moment of birth.

When asked to respond to public outrage over the proposal, Northam seemed to suggest that not only can babies be terminated up until the moment they’re born, but that full-term, born-alive infants can be left to die without medical care if the mother wishes.

“If a mother is in labor...the infant would be delivered,” Northam began, speaking of babies born with anomalies that, according to liberals, would've warranted abortion. "The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother."

Northam didn’t bother to clarify what such a “discussion” would involve, or what "anomalies" justify for infanticide.

The bill, which has been tabled as of this writing,“…eliminates all the procedures and processes, including the performance of an ultrasound, required to effect a woman's informed written consent to the performance of an abortion; however, the bill does not change the requirement that a woman's informed written consent be first obtained. The bill eliminates the requirement that two other physicians certify that a third trimester abortion is necessary to prevent the woman's death or impairment of her mental or physical health, as well as the need to find that any such impairment to the woman's health would be substantial and irremediable.”

The bill’s sponsor, Virginia Delegate Kathy Tran, confirmed to her fellow committee members that the proposal would allow abortion up to 40 weeks, even when the woman is in active labor.

While murdering a living infant moments after it's born alive might seem extreme, it's really no more so than the notion of aborting a full-term child moments before delivery. Which is exactly what proponents of New York's and Virginia's new late-term abortion measures support.

It's no longer surprising. It's just evil.
