Despite the current feud between Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and Pope Francis, Trump once had kind words for the leader of the Catholic Church, and even claimed he wanted Pope Francis to appear on “Celebrity Apprentice.”

On Dec. 25 2013, Trump called Pope Francis a “very humble man, very much like me” and stated that he likes the Pope for this reason:

Asked on April 6, 2014 who his first pick would be to appear on “Celebrity Apprentice,” Trump enthusiastically responded, “The Pope!”

The dispute between the pope and Trump comes after Pope Francis implied Trump is “not Christian” due to his support for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Trump responded to Pope Francis in a statement claiming the pope “would have only wished and prayed that Donald Trump would have been President” “if and when” the Vatican is attacked by ISIS.
